Dear friends, I'm pleased to tell you about a new exhibit I will be in. My two paintings selected are Home is Where You Find It and Fallen Angel. The exhibit is called Home and was open to artists worldwide in all media, and will be at the OCCCA (Orange County Center for Contemporary Art) from July 5 to 26, 2014 – curated by Richard Turner, Professor Emeritus at Chapman University.

He has curated over seventy exhibitions including several that examined the art and issues of Asian American communities in California and contemporary art of Asia. His most recent curatorial project "Facing West/Looking East" for the Oceanside Museum of Art featured works by 20 artists.

Two locations are hosting HÔME: Orange County Center for Contemporary Art and the Vietnamese American Arts & Letters Association.

Bruria Finkel: The Past Four Years presented at ARENA 1, Santa Monica
June 14, 2014
July 26, 2014

Exhibition: June 14 - July 26, 2014

Opening Reception: June 14, 2014, 5:00 - 8:00 p.m.

ARENA 1 is pleased to announce a solo exhibition of work by Bruria Finkel created over the past four years. This productive period in her career is astounding considering that the work was conceived and produced in these years of recovery from a serious car accident and the loss of 40% of her ability to move her head. For more than six months of she was required to wear a “halo,” a device screwed into her skull prohibiting any movement.

This exhibition draws on several different series, each in its own way addressing or responding to the accident and its aftermath. Collectively the body of works is a “meditation on time and life processes and the potential for nature to be a source of renewal if we simply slow down and experience it.” (catalog essay by Professor Emerita and artist Sheila Pinkel,)

There will be a walk through and artist talk on July 12th from 2-3 p.m. Both are free and open to the public.

"Works in this exhibition use Nature to speak about Beauty and the Sublime in not only the natural physical world

but also the gossamer atmosphere of human emotion. The artists address fear, separation, delight, awe,

compassion, divinity, desire with painting, drawing, sculpture and multi media works."

Bonita Helmer at MOCA Beijing - Forms of the Formless
February 1, 2014
April 29, 2014

The vibrARTion Project·Tianjin 2013 “Forms of the Formless” Exhibition of International Contemporary Art travels to MOCA Beijing in February 2014

Artists: Dai Guangyu, Jing Yumin, Jing Shijian, Qin Feng, Wang Yiqiong, Cui Xianji, Qin Chong, Li Yongzheng, Tan Xun, Yang Liming, Huang Zheng, GuanJingjing, LitaAlbuquerque, Annetta Kapon, Francesca Mitterrand, Bonita Helmer, Luc Leestemaker

Sponsors: Nanjing Qinghe Contemporary Art Center, Museum of Contemporary Art Beijing, China Sculpture Institute, China Internet Information Center

Begin from the “form”,
Begin within the formless.

With “form,”

With the form of “non-being,”

With the form of “formless,”

To create image beyond form,

To produce great image beyond image.

"The formless" is an important concept in traditional Chinese philosophy. The Book of Change has stated, "...celestial bodies move to shape in the sky and landscapes are formed on the earth", and Tao Te Ching also has it that “great form is formless". The exhibition “Forms of the Formless” presents such a group of artists: their ultimate intention is not to make visual “forms” but to spiritually experience the oriental philosophy, intentionally or not. The artworks are records of their dialogues with the inner self and the existence of being; they have gone beyond the visual “form,” and become “image”: the image of formless, the great image beyond image.
