Artist Statement

40 years ago when I began sculpting, I decided that carving Holocaust memorials in stone would be the most permanent way to assure that future generations would know about the Holocaust. I felt that paintings, literature or other artworks were just too fragile to be able to survive into the future. Also, I felt that stone sculptures would achieve my purpose of making people think long and hard about the Holocaust.

My sculptures are carved in stone and commemorate the heroism of that time and place - here you will not find any ambiguous artwork, or any sense of defeatism. These sculptures are dedicated to one of the most important lessons of the Holocaust -Am Yisroel Chai -the Jewish people will always survive.
